( 4UMF NEWS ) 14-Year-Old Football Players Sacks Shoplifter:

Sacked! A 14-year-old high school football player helped police tackle a suspected shoplifter inside a Seattle Old Navy — and the entire episode was caught on security camera.

Kevin Merz, a freshman at Seattle Preparatory School, was shopping with his parents and brothers when he saw police chasing the shoplifter through the store.

“It was just like a Hollywood movie,” the 6’1,” 206-pound left tackle told KIRO 7. “I saw him running from outside the store and I was like ‘okay, there’s some crazy guy in here.’”

The 32-year-old man is accused of trying to walk out of a Target at Factoria Mall in Bellevue with $800 worth of merchandise — including a television.

After two police officers began chasing him, the shoplifter ran through a cosmetics store and into the Old Navy.

In the video, Merz comes out of the corner to flatten the shoplifter near the cart rack, where two police officers handcuff the man.

“I’m about 6’1,” he was maybe 5’6,” 5’7,” Merz said. “Easy.”

Bellevue Police spokesman Seth Tyler joked that the department is hiring new officers and said that they intend to nominate Merz for a citizenship award.

The accused shoplifter, who has not been identified, has a history of felony theft, according to police.

He was charged with third-degree theft, resisting arrest and making or having burglary tools.
