( 4UMF NEWS ) Beyonce And Jay Z Visit With Freddie Gray’s Family:
Jay Z and Beyoncé spent some time with the family of the late Freddie Gray during their trip to Baltimore over the weekend.
Gray, 25, died on April 12 while in police custody in which six Baltimore police officers were charged in connection with.
“These charges are an important step in getting justice for Freddie,” the victim’s stepfather, Richard Shipley, said following the news.
Hip-hop’s royal couple was in Baltimore for the “Rally 4 Peace” event on Sunday where Prince performed his protest song “Baltimore,” which was released the day before. The legendary musician’s performance was also streamed live by Jay Z’s music service Tidal.
“I am honored to join Prince in his mission to inspire through the uniting power of music and be able to offer a platform where this moment can be shared globally,” Jay said in a statement on Friday.
In one photo, Lesley McFadden, the mother of Michael Brown — an 18-year-old man who was shot and killed by a police officer on Aug. 9 in Ferguson, Mo. — poses with Beyoncé, Alicia Keys and Tina Knowles.
Jay Z joined the movement against police brutality by matching donations made through the rally’s website to the “Baltimore Justice Fund.”
“We invite all to experience the music and contribute in their own way to promote peace, tolerance and understanding,” the Brooklyn-born rapper said in Friday’s statement. “Our prayers go out to Freddie Gray’s family and every family affected by brutality and senseless violence.”
