( 4UMF NEWS ) Big Daddy Ice Cream Man Killed In Front Of Children:
A Maryland ice cream truck driver was gunned down in front of a line of kids, authorities said.
Brandon Brown had just stepped out of a Big Daddy Ice Cream truck on Saturday when the shooter unloaded, dropping the sweets purveyor next to a Frederick housing complex, cops said.
“It’s sunny out. It’s warm. The ice cream man comes around, and this occurs,” Frederick police Lt. Clark Pennington told the Daily News.
Kids had already begun to line up for treats when the 22-year-old was shot down, Pennington said. Another man was in the truck, but he wasn’t injured.
Investigators surrounded the lime green truck, working the crime scene into the night, Fox 5 video shows.
Detectives quickly identified the killer as Larnell Lyles thanks to the help of the many witnesses, police said.
Working off tips, cops raided a Frederick home early Sunday morning and busted the 27-year-old on charges of first-degree murder. Detectives are still searching for any connection between the men.
Brown was on probation for a 2012 stabbing. He ambushed his victim during what was supposed to be a marijuana deal and fled to Ohio, where he was eventually arrested, The Frederick News-Post reported at the time.
He was originally charged with attempted murder but pleaded guilty in 2013 to first-degree assault, online court records show.
Pennington acknowledged detectives are investigating whether that case played any role in Brown’s death.
“There are a number of theories,” he said. “That’s obviously one of them.”
Lyles was also charged with using a handgun in a felony, and police said he’ll face additional charges.
