( 4UMF NEWS ) Dad Ditches 6-Year-Old Son To Dine With Girlfriend:
He dined, but he couldn’t dash from police.
A Georgia dad was arrested for leaving his 6-year-old son in the car so he could finish a meal with his girlfriend, who is nearly half his age, police said Monday.
Aric Keck, 51, and Jacqueline Tabb, 26, were charged with reckless conduct after abandoning the boy for about 40 minutes in Alpharetta last month, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The boy went out to dinner at Kona Grill with the Smyrna couple during a visit on July 18, police said. When he got tired around 9:30 p.m., the pair brought him back to the car – parked more than a block away – instead of taking him home, police said.
The crying child called his mom, who called authorities, police said.
Keck returned to the car as the boy was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher who had called the child, police said.
The dispatcher then called Keck, who hung up the first time before claiming he had just slipped away to go to the bathroom, they said.
Keck soon threatened his ex-wife for calling cops in a hateful phone call, police said.
The boy was not injured. Despite his age, he remembered the names of the streets where the car was parked, allowing police to find surveillance video. Footage shows Keck and Tabb left the restaurant around 10:15 p.m. – about 45 minutes after bringing the boy outside.
The couple surrendered on Aug. 10. Keck did not immediately respond to the Daily News’ request for comment.
