( 4UMF NEWS ) Deer Attacks Driver Who Hit Him With Car:
The deer Ellen Sager hit was certainly not frozen in headlights.
Sager was driving her 2008 GMC Envoy when she clipped the buck, which then tried to pry his way into her truck, police said.
After the GMC Envoy she was driving clipped a deer on Oak Glen Road on Sept. 17, the deer struck back – and tried to climb into the car.
“Before I could even get my door open the whole way, it was basically on top of me,” Sager recalled. “I grabbed hold of its antlers, and put my foot in its chest just trying to keep hm from coming in further. I got him out of the way enough for me to close the door.”
Patrolman Nicholas Austin happened to be driving behind Sager, responding to another call, when he saw her pull over after tagging the deer, police said. Austin pulled in behind her to help.
“I’ve never seen anything like this,” Austin said. “I never once seen a deer try to get into somebody’s car before.”
Howell Police Chief Andrew Kudrick described the incident as “a scene from a cheap comedy.”
“Patrolman Austin was nearly as surprised as Sager,” he said in a statement, “and the two shared a laugh after the incident.”
Sager suffered a minor knee injury, police said. The deer died from the injuries it sustained in the collision.
