( 4UMF NEWS ) Facebook Video Leads Cops to Teen Sucker-Puncher:
A video of a teenager sucker-punching a man crossing a street is helping police in New Jersey bring the young attacker to justice.
The video of the Dec. 7 attack, which was posted on Facebook, came to the attention of the Paterson Police Department last week, Jerry Speziale, spokesman for the agency, said Sunday.
Following numerous tips and scouring reams of records, investigators identified the teen in the video and are prepared to charge him with aggravated assault and endangering an injured victim, he said.
The 17-year-old boy who punched the man plans to turn himself in to police on Tuesday, said attorney Harley Breite, who was hired by the boy’s family.
“The reason for waiting until Tuesday is because there are things we need to do to safely and to properly prepare him to turn himself in,” he told NBC 4 New York.
A 16-year-old boy, who videotaped the incident, can be heard urging the attacker to “knock him out.” That teen turned himself in to police on Saturday.
Both teens are Paterson residents. There names weren’t being released by police because of their ages.
The video shows the man being punched in the face as he was about to cross Rosa Parks Boulevard from Van Houten Street.
“We’re not going to tolerate that in our city,” said Speziale.
