( 4UMF NEWS ) FBI Announces Facial Recognition Program:

On Monday, the FBI announced a tool to identify as well as search for people's faces.
This is part of what the bureau calls the Next Generation Identification System. The FBI hopes this system will replace the current fingerprint-tracking system.

As part of the program, the bureau will rely on mug shots to search for people. They will then be identified by tattoos, scars and other features.

The FBI said what its calling the Interstate Photo System will, "provide the nation's law enforcement community with an investigative tool that provides an image-searching capability of photographs associated with criminal identities."

It reportedly cost $1 billion to bring the program online.

In addition to the face-tracking tool, the FBI also announced Monday what's called a "Rap Back" feature to allow police to continuously monitor if ex-convicts, teachers or "individuals holding positions of trust" break the law.
