( 4UMF NEWS ) Filmmakers Launch Kickstarter For A Maya Angelou Documentary:

Bob Hercules and Rita Coburn Whack, old friends of Maya Angelou, want to create documentary about her phenomenal life, but they need some funds first.

That’s why the two have launched a Kickstarter campaign to pay for their documentary, for which they have already done the interviews with Angelou and others (including President Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Common, and Dr. Angelou’s son, Guy Johnson). They just need more funds for licensing fees as well as technical edits.

“As friends from Dr. Angelou’s inner circle,” their Kickstarter page reads, “we have been granted remarkable and unmatched access to Dr. Angelou’s life. After years of working on this film, we are honored to present her incredible journey to the rest of the world.”

The documentary, they say, will show “the events of history, culture, and the arts shaped Dr. Angelou’s life and how she, in turn, helped shape our own worldview through her autobiographical literature and activism,” as well as “untold aspects of her life.”

If the filmmakers meet their goal of $150,000, they intend to release the documentary on PBS in 2016.
