( 4UMF NEWS ) Grandmothers Start LeBron James Fan Club:
As you’d probably expect, there’s no shortage of LeBron James fan clubs around the country and, for that matter, around the world. LeBron is beloved both here in the U.S. and overseas. So he’s got fan clubs that have their own websites, Facebook pages, and Twitter handles. But none of them—none of them—can match the LeBron James Grandmothers’ Club.
The LJGC boasts more than 200 members with most of them hailing from LeBron’s hometown of Akron, Ohio. Some of them have been following King James since his time at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, while others just joined the group this year. But they’ve all got one thing in common: They’re all grandmothers, and they all treat LeBron like he’s their grandchild, even though none of them are actually related to him.
“We love him,” 75-year-old club president Alder Chapman told espnW recently. “He just feels like one of ours…If you want to see a real Cavs fan, come to one of our game watches.”
It doesn’t sound like the club attends many Cavaliers games. But they do a lot of volunteer work on LeBron’s behalf, and they rarely miss a game on TV. It’s why we’re now fans of them—and why they’re easily the most unique LeBron fan club on the planet.
