Man Slapped With $2.1 Million Cell Phone Bill

( 4UMF NEWS ) Man Slapped With $2.1 Million Cell Phone Bill:

An Oregon man says he’s seeing red after being harassed by bill collectors over a phony one-month cell phone bill, totaling more than $2 million.

“It’s been very stressful to say the least,” Ken Slusher told KPTV News of what he’s calling a nine-month disconnect with Verizon Wireless.

In an interview with reporters outside his home Tuesday, the Damascus dad shared audio of a computer reading off the amount he’s claimed to owe: $2,156,593.64.

Slusher said it all started back in November when he opened a Verizon account with his girlfriend and they bought two phones.

The couple kept the service for just one month but after noticing major discrepancies on their bills they cut ties, he said.

Their first bill should have been for $120, he said.

Instead, it was for $698 and showed a previous balance of $451. Their following statement asked for just $9.

“The number of errors and the comedy of which they happened is astounding to me,” he said.

Slusher closed the account and thought it was over with, until they started getting calls from collection agencies demanding upward of $2,000.

His limit was hit, he said, when his attempt to put an offer on a new home this week became jeopardized over this mounting, seven-digit debt.

He’s scheduled to close on his house on Monday but fears that if the situation doesn’t get sorted the opportunity will pass by.

Verizon has admitted to having made a mistake with the bill, he said, but was apparently dragging their feet on making it right. Reached by a KPTV reporter, a Verizon spokesperson said they would look into the situation late Tuesday evening.

By Wednesday a company spokesperson reported that they had apologized to Slusher and “have resolved the issue to his satisfaction.”
