( 4UMF NEWS ) Man Steals Boss' Car To Go To Jail To Avoid Wife:

It’s ’til car theft do them part for one Tennessee couple.

Hayden Scott Vandiver stole his boss’s $60,000 truck on Sunday and drove it into a lake — so that he could go to jail and get a break from his wife.

In a jailhouse interview, the 51-year-old Giles County man told News 2 that he hoped his wife was watching the interview.

“She is having a bad time right now. She knows I done this to get away from her,” he said.

Vandiver was charged with burglary, vandalism and drunk driving, but he seemed positively gleeful on camera. Although he hadn’t worked for Michael Sloan for more than a year, Vandiver said he still wanted to get even after what he considered poor treatment.

“I hate people who disrespect their employees and all they care about is whether they are going to work for them,” he told News 2.

That’s why Vandiver stole the 2012 Dodge 2500 and drove it 1.5 miles through a creek with the doors open till it wouldn’t go any farther.

When asked why he drove through a creek, he said, “’Cause I like driving in a creek.”

Grinning, he said, “Only thing I didn’t like was swimming out of it.”
