( 4UMF NEWS ) New Condom Turns Colors When STD Detected:
Usually when someone says “Hey, your chlamydia is growing green,” it’s a bad thing.
Well, it’s still going to be kind of a bad thing, but at least with the new “smart condoms” you’ll know what’s going on, and hopefully, be prevented from spreading it.
The concept for the “S.T.EYE” condoms was developed by British students for the TeenTech Awards, the Daily Mail reports.
The condoms would include a layer of molecules that are made to attach to bacteria and viruses from a range of sexually transmitted diseases. Those molecules would then glow a certain color depending on which STD the user had. For instance, the condoms might glow green for chlamydia, yellow for herpes, red for gonorrhea, etc.
The condoms won the top prize in the contest’s health category, but are just a concept and not a real product right now. That doesn’t mean they won’t be coming soon, though. Past winners’ ideas have been patented and developed for market, a spokesperson told MTV.
