( 4UMF NEWS ) Police Investigate Attempted Rap Battle:
Do not lose yourself in the music — not if you’re in Massachusetts. Police in the Bay State are investigating a report of men in their 20s challenging teenagers to a rap battle.
The Charlton Police Department warned the community Monday that two to three white men in their late teens or early 20s hopped out of an SUV and approached a group of teens looking to do verbal damage.
“One of the males, with brown hair and a pale complexion, wearing a gray T-shirt, gray pants and open-toed sandals, exited the vehicle and started rapping while the other occupants of the vehicle began asking the boys if they wanted to ‘spit some bars,’ (rap lingo) with them,” the news release reads.
The teens thought the rap challenge was “suspicious” but no one was harmed.
“With that being said, the Charlton Police are still conducting a follow-up investigation into this matter,” the department wrote.
The Internet had a blast responding to the cops’ concern about the would-be rappers.
“I hope they find these monsters. They need to put an end to this. A challenge for a rap battle? What’s next, a dance off?” said one Facebook commenter. “I can only imagine what it’s like to be a parent in Charlton right now, knowing that at any moment someone could expose their kids to some phat beats or ill rhymes.”
“Sounds to me like this is, as usual, a case of shoddy parenting,” another wrote. “Shame on those parents for raising kids that aren’t ready to spit bars when the occasion calls for it. I’m raising my young ones to be ready to drop a 16 at all times.”
One person said that the only crime was wearing open-toed sandals and another quipped, “Omg, it’s the town from Footloose! It’s a real place!!”
After getting skewered online, the police stepped up to clarify.
“We are not investigating Rap music being sung in Charlton,” they wrote. “The purpose of the post was to notify the community after parents contacted police.”
The cops said they “encourage everyone to report suspicious activity to the police, and will continue to do so; even if it means we will be ridiculed for doing so.”
