( 4UMF NEWS ) Police Shooting Leaves One Dead:

One person died after an officer-involved shooting in downtown Atlanta on Monday night, Atlanta Police said.

The incident happened shortly before 8 p.m. ET on Ted Turner Boulevard near Baker Street outside the Aloft hotel.

Atlanta police said that officers attempted to pull a car over on a routine traffic stop. The driver allegedly didn’t stop. Police began to pursue the vehicle, which then struck a light pole and a hotel shuttle bus.

After crashing, police said the driver of the vehicle surrendered. The passenger in the vehicle fled behind the Aloft hotel. There was an exchange of gunfire, and the passenger was killed. No officers were injured.

The hotel issued a statement to NBC News saying that the incident did not involve guests or associates.

“It was apparently the result of a police chase that ended nearby,” the statement said.

According to police, three weapons were recovered: one firearm outside the vehicle, one inside the vehicle and one on a person. A bag containing marijuana was found in the car, police said.
