( 4UMF NEWS ) Powerball Winners Announced In Three States:
A record Powerball jackpot will be shared by winners in California, Florida and Tennessee. Millions were disappointed when the winning numbers for the largest jackpot in U.S. history were announced Wednesday night.
However, at least three people with the numbers 8-27-34-04-19 and 10 are entitled to a share of the $1.58 billion. The California ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven in Chino Hills, Calif., while the winning Tennessee ticket came from a store in Munford, north of Memphis. The third top ticket was sold at a Publix grocery store in Melbourne Beach, Fla.
Hundreds of people gathered at the lucky California 7-Eleven Wednesday night and boastfully shouted the name of their city. Some took selfies with the store clerk on duty. The shop will get a $1 million bonus for selling the winning ticket.
None of the three winners had been identified as of Thursday morning.
A Powerball spokesperson confirmed to the Daily News that the California, Florida and Tennessee tickets would split the $1,586,400,000 jackpot with $528 million each.
The chances of winning the Powerball, which is played in 44 states, Washington DC, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, is one in 292.2 million.
Despite the long odds, Powerball sales nationwide were expected to top $326 million on Tuesday and up to $600 million on Wednesday.
While players’ dreams of luxury and billions of dollars were largely dashed, many people won some sort of lesser prize.
A breakdown showed that more than 20 million people had won $4 by matching the Powerball number, 10, or the Powerball plus one other number.
More than 2 million won prizes for matching two, three or four numbers, with 73 people winning a million each for guessing every number but the Powerball.
