Prince to Play Rally 4 Peace Concert

( 4UMF NEWS ) Prince to Play Rally 4 Peace Concert:

Prince will headline a special "Rally 4 Peace" concert on Mother’s Day in Baltimore, Maryland, a city rocked by unrest after the death of Freddie Gray.

Sunday’s concert, which will reportedly feature a number of surprise special guest stars, is slated to be held at the Royal Farms Arena, according to its promoter LiveNation. Prince’s funk-rock band 3RDEYEGIRL will also be performing.

Attendees will be encouraged to show symbolic solidarity by wearing gray as a tribute “to all those recently lost in the violence.”

“In a spirit of healing, the event is meant to be a catalyst for pause and reflection following the outpouring of violence that has gripped Baltimore and areas throughout the U.S.,” the press release stated.

The city of Baltimore was rocked by protests and riots after Gray died of a spinal injury he suffered while in police custody. The six officers involved in the arrest of Gray have since been charged, one with second-degree murder.

Prince recently composed a yet-to-be-released tribute song to the people of Baltimore that, according to the singer’s publicist, also addresses "the socio/political issues around the country in the wake of a slew of killings of young black men.”

Tickets for the Sunday show go on sale at Wednesday at 5 p.m. ET. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Baltimore-based youth charities, The Associated Press reported.
