St. Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey was in critical but stable condition early Wednesday morning after being shot twice in the head in Miami, according to multiple reports.
The Rams confirmed Bailey’s condition in the hospital but did not reveal the cause.
“We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening,” the team wrote on a statement posted to its website. “We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more.”
Bailey was expected to undergo surgery later in the morning, reports said.
Bailey was shot twice in the head while sitting in a car Tuesday evening, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported. His injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to NFL Media’s Mike Silver.
A third-round pick in 2013, Bailey is in his third season with the Rams. He was serving a four-game suspension issued Nov. 9 for violating’s the NFL’s policy on substance abuse. He had 12 catches for 182 yards and a touchdown so far this season.
