( 4UMF NEWS ) ‘Soul Food’ Sequel Is Coming Soon:
Eighteen years after the original, Soul Food director George Tillman Jr is writing the script for the sequel, appropriately titled More Soul Food.
Tillman, who’s directing credits include Men of Honor, The Longest Ride and a few episode of STARZ newest hit Power,will work alongside Nathan Skulnik on the script. Tillman’s State Street Pictures will produce alongside Tracey and Babyface Edmunds, The Hollywood Reporter confirms
The original film, which earned $43.7 million, had an all star cast including Vanessa Williams, Nia Long, Vivica A. Fox, Mekhi Phifer, Nicole Ari Parker and Boris Kudjoe. Soul Food followed a close knit family who had large Sunday meals together, that begin to lose their way once Josephine “Big Mama” Joseph dies.
The sequel will follow the younger Joseph generation as they navigate life in the new cell phone, social media crazed world. No word on when the film will hit theaters and if the original cast is on board.
