( 4UMF NEWS ) Student Arrested After Accused Of Stealing Free Milk:
A Virginia family is crying over free milk. A Graham Park Middle school student was cuffed and suspended after being accused of stealing a 65-cent carton of milk during lunch — even though Ryan Turk is on the free lunch program.
“They are charging him with larceny, which I don’t have no understanding as to why he is being charged with larceny when he was entitled to that milk from the beginning,” his frustrated mother, Shamise Turk, told WJLA.
An officer grabbed Ryan when the boy was standing on the lunch line getting milk, his mother said.
The teen reacted in frustration after the officer’s rough handling, according to reports. Police said Ryan was charged with larceny for trying to “conceal” the free milk.
“I yanked away from him, I told him to get off of me because he’s not my dad,” Ryan told the local outlet.
Officers also searched the boy for drugs, because he was acting erratic at the principal’s office, his mother explained.
“He was fidgety, kept pulling on the strings of his pants, and laughing when we were trying to talk to him,” Shamise Turk said.
The middle school student was suspended for theft, being disrespectful and using his cellphone on campus.
The Prince William County school district allows for an appeal for disciplinary actions, in the event that the punishment doesn’t fit the crime.
Ryan’s mother is still fighting to have the charges dropped, considering that her son couldn’t have stolen milk that was supposed to be free.
“This is ridiculous … this beyond embarassing,” Shamise Turk said. “I’m angry, I’m frustrated, I’m mad. It just went too far.”
