Suspects Wounded In Shootout With Police

( 4UMF NEWS ) Suspects Wounded In Shootout With Police:

Two suspects were wounded by gunfire during a shootout with Atlanta police after a chase, authorities said.

In a 911 call Tuesday night, a caller claimed a person was riding in a car and waving a gun at traffic. When police tried to pull the car over, the suspects fled, leading police on a 5-mile chase from Atlanta into neighboring DeKalb County, Ga.

The suspects stopped their car and jumped out, Atlanta Police Maj. Jeff Glazier said. A police officer ran after them. When the suspects allegedly fired at the officer, the officer shot back hitting two suspects.

Four suspects are in custody. An 18-year-old male suspect was shot in the leg, while a 24-year-old man was shot in the abdomen. Both are hospitalized in stable condition, Glazier said. A third male suspect, age 22, suffered facial injuries after falling while running from police. The fourth suspect was a female.

The officer who shot at them was not injured and will be place on routine administrative leave. Two weapons were recovered from the scene, authorities said.

Police said the officer "did everything right" in the shooting.

Police are looking into the possibility the same suspects were involved in an armed robbery near where the chase began.
