Unarmed Black Teen Killed For Driving Cop's Car

( 4UMF NEWS ) Unarmed Black Teen Killed For Driving Cop's Car:

A promising young football star was shot dead in Virginia Saturday after the unarmed teen got behind the wheel of an off-duty police officer’s car without permission, witnesses said.

Paterson Brown Jr., 18, was shot in the parking lot of a Richmond car wash after a confrontation with the unidentified plainclothes officer, reports WTVR.

Brown, a recent graduate of James River High School, reportedly commandeered the officer’s vehicle and drove it through the Better Vision car wash about 9:40 a.m. after he and friends pulled up in a car behind the man.

The unprovoked action prompted the officer to confront Brown, who witnesses said remained in the vehicle after he was asked to leave.

“During the confrontation, the suspect was shot and he was transported to Chippenham Hospital where he later died,” a Chesterfield Police spokesman told the local CBS affiliate on Monday.

The officer called for a clerk at the Turner Road gas station, which shares a parking lot with the car wash, to call police, a witness claimed. But by the time officers arrived, one shot was fired, officials and witnesses said.

The witness added that the off-duty cop was in tears in the parking lot after the shooting.

“He didn’t want to do it,” a witness told the Richmond Times-Dispatch. “He tried and tried to get him out.”

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, the spokesman said.

No weapon was recovered at the scene and the officer was not treated for injuries, officials said.

Brown is the 29th unarmed African-American to be fatally shot by police in 2015, according to the Washington Post.
